On air on the web

On air on the web

A project that shows: technology is not an end in itself, but creates real improvements for people who love music.

Challenges

Klassik Radio was working with an outdated Content Management System that no longer met today's requirements: The platform was slow, technically obsolete, and did not provide a modern user experience – a clear contradiction to the claim of a broadcaster with a diverse music offering. As part of the relaunch, the new web portal was also developed.Beats Radiodeveloped – the digital presence of another channel of Klassik Radio GmbH focusing on 24/7 Deep House, House Music, and Nu Disco. Both websites are based on the same modular DXP platform and were implemented together as part of a project.

Challenges Classic Radio

  1. Migration

bring existing content to the new platform

  2. User Experience

Redesign of the website for the simplest operation

  3. New Web Player

    Simple, efficient & well integrated

  4. DXP

Content, Audio, Streaming & E-Commerce orchestrated and API-first

  5. Teaser

Timed previews announce content & formats

  6. Complex Infrastructure

Classical Radio and Beats Radio required a platform that can consistently manage a variety of content and channels – including radio streams, playlists, a classical wiki, articles, and a radio program.

  7. Platform-independent Provisioning

The content should be available not only on the website but also through mobile devices and other endpoints.

  8. Fast loading times and high performance

For the optimal user experience, we have ensured low latency and fast delivery of content.

Our approach

In just 4 months, we have created a completely new digital home. It was not about technical gimmicks, but about real improvements for the listeners:

What we have built

  1. A platform that enables stable streaming for all channels 24/7.

  2. A mobile-first design that works on every device

  3. Seamless integration of web players & e-commerce

  4. Flexible system that can grow with the sender.

Research perspective according to Nohria's Meta-Skills

  • Preparation:Intensive analysis of the previous digital strategy and the CMS.
  • Discrimination ability:Identification of the most critical issues (Performance, User Experience, Flexibility).

  • Judgment:Selection of a flexible DXP solution based on modular technologies.
  • Collaboration:Close cooperation between the internal team of Klassik Radio and the agency.
  • Curiosity:Investigation of innovative technologies such as Headless CMS and MACH architecture.

Technological solution

We rely on proven, modern solutions: A headless architecture separates content from presentation. This makes the system fast and future-proof. With technologies like Next.js and Tailwind CSS, we have created a platform that is both technically robust and visually appealing.

Solution concept

  • Microservices

Independent, decoupled services that can be developed, maintained, and scaled separately form our Digital Experience Platform (DXP).
  • API-first

Content and functions are provided via REST and GraphQL APIs for easy integration with other systems and platforms.
  • Cloud-Native

The complete infrastructure is hosted in the cloud. For fault tolerance, global availability, and automatic scaling.
  • Headless

Contentful as a headless CMS allows you to manage and deliver content independently of the frontend.
